13thShade 4,323/5000 Posted June 22, 2017 AUTHOR: @13thShade META: VGC/Doubles INTRODUCTION Welcome to the third Pokemon of the Week of June! This week I’ll be covering Dhelmise, the Sea Creeper Pokemon. Found in Alola, Dhelmise has interesting Ghost/Grass typing and a unique ability that gives it a third STAB. Despite its enormous base 131 attack, great ability, and good movepool, Dhelmise is underused. It’s time that that changed. BASIC INFO POKEMON: Dhelmise, the Sea Creeper Pokemon, #781 TYPE/S: Ghost/Grass ABILITY: Steelworker - Increases the power of Steel-type moves used by this Pokémon by 50%. BASE STATS HP: 70 ATTACK: 131 DEFENSE: 100 SPECIAL ATTACK: 86 SPECIAL DEFENSE: 90 SPEED: 40 BASE STAT TOTAL: 517 IMPORTANT MOVES: - Anchor Shot: Physical Steel move. Prevents the target from switching out. - Earthquake: Physical Ground move. Hits adjacent Pokemon. Power doubles in dig. - Gyro Ball: Physical Steel move. More power the slower the user than the target. - Heavy Slam: Physical Steel move. More power the heavier the user than the target. - Power Whip: Physical Grass move. - Rock Slide: Physical dual-target Rock move. 30% chance to flinch the targets. - Shadow Claw: Physical Ghost move. High critical hit ratio. - Swords Dance: Raises the user’s attack by 2 stages. - Substitute: User takes 1/4 of its max HP to put into a Substitute. - Switcheroo: User switches the held item with the target’s. - Toxic: Badly poisons the target. - Bulldoze: Physical Ground move. 100% chance to lower adjacent Pokemon’s speed by 1. - Phantom Force: Physical Ghost move. Disappears turn 1. Reappears turn 2. Breaks protection. ANALYSIS: Dhelmise’s huge attack, solid defenses, and snail-like speed enable it to be an excellent Trick Room threat. Though it is weak to Arcanine, it has the possibility of OHKOing common threats like the Tapus, severals UBs, and Gigalith. STANDARD SETS: Life Orb TR Attacker Dhelmise @ Life Orb Ability: Steelworker Level: 50 EVs: 188 HP / 252 Atk / 12 Def / 52 SpD Brave Nature IVs: 0 Spe – Power Whip – Anchor Shot – Shadow Claw/Swords Dance/Substitute – Protect This is Trainer Tower’s basic Dhelmise, and it’s quite good, capitalizing on Dhelmise’s strengths and minimizing its weaknesses. It does huge damage, and defensively it can naturally survive hits from most common attackers (not Arcanine) as well as a few calced supereffective hits. If functions well under TR, underspeeding all common meta threats that aren’t specifically for TR. Calcs: 252+ Atk Life Orb Dhelmise Anchor Shot vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Tapu Bulu: 177-208 (100 – 117.5%) — guaranteed OHKO 252+ Atk Life Orb Dhelmise Anchor Shot vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Tapu Lele: 247-291 (139.5 – 164.4%) — guaranteed OHKO 252+ Atk Life Orb Dhelmise Power Whip vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tapu Koko: 169-200 (116.5 – 137.9%) — guaranteed OHKO 252+ Atk Life Orb Dhelmise Power Whip vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Xurkitree: 195-230 (102.6 – 121%) — guaranteed OHKO 252+ Atk Life Orb Dhelmise Shadow Claw vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Alolan Marowak: 159-190 (95.2 – 113.7%) — 68.8% chance to OHKO 252 SpA Gengar Shadow Ball vs. 188 HP / 52 SpD Dhelmise: 140-168 (82.8 – 99.4%) — guaranteed 2HKO 252+ Atk Krookodile Crunch vs. 188 HP / 12 Def Dhelmise: 138-164 (81.6 – 97%) — guaranteed 2HKO Banded TR Monster Dhelmise @ Choice Band Ability: Steelworker Level: 50 EVs: 188 HP / 252 Atk / 12 Def / 52 SpD Brave Nature IVs: 0 Spe – Power Whip – Anchor Shot – Shadow Claw – Switcheroo/Earthquake This Dhelmise has the same EVs as the previous one, but hits A LOT harder. It has a guaranteed OHKO on every Tapu, high OHKO chance on Garchomp, and does around 50% to Arcanine even after Intimidate. You can put another coverage move on it, but I like Switcheroo for the versatility. Choice Band can cripple Porygon2, and you even have the option of swapping it onto your own ‘Mon for some extra, unexpected damage. Calcs: -1 252+ Atk Choice Band Dhelmise Shadow Claw vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Arcanine: 79-94 (40.1 - 47.7%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Figy Berry recovery 252+ Atk Choice Band Dhelmise Power Whip vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Tapu Koko: 195-229 (133.5 - 156.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO 252+ Atk Choice Band Dhelmise Anchor Shot vs. 164 HP / 92 Def Tapu Lele: 254-300 (153 - 180.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO 252+ Atk Choice Band Dhelmise Power Whip vs. 252 HP / 100 Def Tapu Fini: 276-326 (155.9 - 184.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO 252+ Atk Choice Band Dhelmise Anchor Shot vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Tapu Bulu: 200-236 (112.9 - 133.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO 252+ Atk Choice Band Dhelmise Power Whip vs. 228 HP / 52 Def Gigalith: 260-308 (137.5 - 162.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO 252+ Atk Choice Band Dhelmise Power Whip vs. 244 HP / 92 Def Eviolite Porygon2: 111-132 (58.1 - 69.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO 252 SpA Gengar Shadow Ball vs. 188 HP / 52 SpD Dhelmise: 140-168 (82.8 – 99.4%) — guaranteed 2HKO 252+ Atk Krookodile Crunch vs. 188 HP / 12 Def Dhelmise: 138-164 (81.6 – 97%) — guaranteed 2HKO +1 28 SpA Porygon2 Ice Beam vs. 188 HP / 52 SpD Dhelmise: 112-134 (66.2 - 79.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO Assault Vest Dhelmise @ Assault Vest Ability: Steelworker Level: 50 EVs: 188 HP / 252 Atk / 12 Def / 52 SpD Brave Nature IVs: 0 Spe - Power Whip - Anchor Shot - Power Whip - Gyro Ball Yes, the same EVs again. What can I say, it’s a multi-purpose spread. This Dhelmise sacrifices a bit of offense to capitalize on its already solid defenses. It still does big damage, just not quite as much to resisting targets. It also capitalizes on low speed with the use of Gyro Ball. Calcs: 252+ Atk Dhelmise Gyro Ball (125 BP) vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Tapu Koko: 135-159 (92.4 - 108.9%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO 252+ Atk Dhelmise Power Whip vs. 252 HP / 100 Def Tapu Fini: 186-218 (105 - 123.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO 252+ Atk Dhelmise Anchor Shot vs. 164 HP / 92 Def Tapu Lele: 170-202 (102.4 - 121.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO 252+ Atk Dhelmise Anchor Shot vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Tapu Bulu: 136-160 (76.8 - 90.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery 252+ SpA Tapu Lele Psychic vs. 188 HP / 52 SpD Assault Vest Dhelmise in Psychic Terrain: 88-105 (52 - 62.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO +1 28 SpA Porygon2 Ice Beam vs. 188 HP / 52 SpD Assault Vest Dhelmise: 76-90 (44.9 - 53.2%) -- 24.6% chance to 2HKO 252 SpA Ninetales-Alola Blizzard vs. 188 HP / 52 SpD Assault Vest Dhelmise: 68-84 (40.2 - 49.7%) -- 9.4% chance to 2HKO after hail damage ALTERNATIVE SETS: - Z Move: It would be possible to run a Z-Move Dhelmise for the big one-time damage to threats like Arcanine, but in my opinion the Banded/Life Orb sets are more consistent. - Special: If you are afraid of Intimidate, you could run a special Dhelmise. It has solid special attack and a great special movepool, though it pales in comparison to its physical prowess. - Support: Dhelmise has some cool support options in Bulldoze and Toxic, and its natural bulk could make it a decent support ‘Mon, though the weakness to the ever-present Arcanine makes that difficult. PARTNER POKEMON: - Porygon2: Dhelmise thrives under Trick Room, and Porygon2 is the premier TR setter in the format. - Magnezone: Though it also loses to Arcanine, Magnezone helps beat Celesteela, which is a counter for Dhelmise simply because Dhelmise can’t damage it. - Gigalith: Gigalith beats Arcanine. ‘Nuff said. - Araquanid: Like Gigalith, Araquanid eats up Arcanine, Dhelmise’s biggest counter. THREATS/COUNTERS: - Arcanine: The premier Fire type in the format, Dhelmise can’t touch it, Arc does big damage in return, and Intimidate cripples Dhelmise. - Persian-Alola: The combination of resisting one of Dhelmise’s STAB, having Foul Play, and carrying Parting Shot allows Persian to really hinder its offensive ability. - Celesteela: Not so much a hard counter, but Dhelmise cannot do much damage as it resists most of Dhelmise’s common attacks. Also, Celesteela often carries Flamethrow, which is supereffective and targets Dhelmise’s weaker defense. Well, that’s it for Pokemon of the Week #10. I hope you enjoyed it, and maybe even learned something! @Eastonn8@Thesi@Telfer
 Achievements
