How fast and stable internet is needed for RL

Recommended Posts

Just made a notion that the game is near impossible to play with phones 4G hotspot. This comes as no surprise, but wakes a question, how fast and stable should the connection really be at minimum? Assuming the servers themselves were to work of course.

I'd say you only need an ethernet connection to play this game, I've played on friends' crappy internet before and with a wired connection it really makes a difference over WiFi.

I've played the game before on 4G internet from my phone. I was getting around 70 ping instead of my standard 20-30 but it was stable. Maybe the usage in your area is a lot more attentive than other places?

But it isn't much you need that is dedicated to play Rocket League. I would personally say 2-3Mbp/s or so?

Usually I would just say to have an Ethernet connection for the best but wifi could work just not as smoothly

And to play directly connected to the Psyonix servers with ethernet can’t hurt.

I’ll take this to a test again today on a different location. I felt it was not an issue if Ping, more like complete shutdowns in bandwith making things teleport around. But when it worked, it wasnt too bad actually. Just hinders the experience when you find yourself from the other side of field than you thought all of a sudden. :D

man my ping is solid 120 all the time in EU servers (I live in the middle east ) and I play EU always I rarely have lag issues because the servers in EU used to be really good before the recent update. I think you need ethernet connection with decent speed to play this game .

Tested my mobile connection again last night. Now it was a bit better, but still got packet loss and ping icons flashing pretty constantly.

Other problems that occur omon my laptop is that the game ramps my gpu (960m) to 100% all the time, making it throttle at some point without a cooling pad. Other than that, the 15” screen just is not enough for this game! :D

edit: and of course i can’t determine if the problems were only on my end, sometimes people called out server laggs on their own end.

Fast enough to have sub 80 ping for competitive play.

I went from US with a 25 ping/300+ dl to guam with 130 ping/30 dl. I have gotten x4 better than when I started in the US but I have actually dropped from diamond 1-2 to barely holding onto gold 2. The .25 or .5 of a second delay is a huge factor when making a goal requires a split second advantage over a defender. Or even hitting the ball at all to make a save instead of ghosting through the delayed image.

Having a bad ping is such a gamebreaker that Ive had to give up any dreams of climbing above diamond until I move back to civilisation.

If you have a cable, it almost always works fine.

I have a cable and it works really well! But the only weird thing is that some people have like 50 ping and they are not lagging but when I have higher than 30 ping it's already lagging for me xD
